The photo of the Bird Park pool of 1957 is great! Can I get a copy of the original?
This is taken from the 1957 Walpole Town Report which is available at the town library.
The stone bathhouse was just to the left of where this photo was taken. You can see the stone bridge that crossed the little creek that entered the pool from the wooded area. The "stepping stones" crossed the pool near there. The pool was emptied every spring and cleaned of all the winter gunk. There was a 2 inch iron pipe that brought fresh water to refill the pool. Always a big occasion. We used to catch little carp by hand from the creek below the dam and the bigger bridge at that end of the pool (to the right, out of view in this photo). We ice skated on the pool in the winter. I attended Bird School, went to the old Park Theater two or three times a week. We lived at 16 June St., right across from the theater. A great town to be a kid in. I was there from 1949 to 1955, and left at age 12. So long ago. So many memories.
