1954 was the year Hurricane Carol came through East Walpole. It damaged trees in Bird Park and I remember walking through the park and it smelled like a saw mill there were so many broken trees. This was the hurricane that blew the tower of of Old North Church in Boston. I believe the eye went right through East Walpole. Terrible noise and wind, then silence and no wind, with bright sunlight. then the noise and the wind returned as the eye of the storm passed by. I was 11 years old.
I have lots of memories of early 1950s East Walpole. You can reach me at jwgrace99@yahoo.com
